Ok First I know my fair share of some Tech stuff yet I have never Dealt with a website or hosting so I got some questions because I am thinking of grouping with my Artist freind and createing a Web Comic with my Story.
Is there any good sites were I can create and host the site without fuss? Maybe have an abilty to import HTML from Mircosoft Frontpage? Or are there better Website builders? I am not 100% Fluient with HTML, also can someone explane what Bandwith is and Domain Names?
Questions on Website Creation and Hosting?
I prefer GoDaddy.com myself for hosting. There are many others, they are just the company I have experience with. They have good rates for a variety of Domain Names and other products. Have great customer service support. As far as HTML editors there are also an abundance of products. I like to use both MS Frontpage as well as Macromedia Dreamweaver for constructing websites. As to your question about bandwidth, basically it refers to the amount of traffic to your site as well as transfers to and from your site. What I mean by this is if your are allowing downloads or uploads to your site. The amount of data transferred refers to your bandwidth. Domain Names are simple. www.yahoo.com is a domain name. DNS servers (Domain Name Servers) respond to requests from a web browser (ie. www.yahoo.com) and translate this request to an IP (Internet Protocol) address (ie. 122.34.65.35) Instead of people at their home PCs needing to remember some hexadecimal number, the can just use easy to remember domain names to find websites. Hope I have done a good job of answering your questions.
Questions on Website Creation and Hosting?
http://www.DependableHost.net is the perfect host for you! FrontPage works flawlessly with them, and the price is right! I%26#039;ve been with them for 1.5 years, and during that time their server has been online 100% of the time. Some say 100% uptime is not possible; I think I found an exception! They have a promo now - first month free, or a free domain name!
Bandwidth is the measurement of how much data from your site was sent to peoples%26#039; computers. Everytime a person visits your site, it uses bandwidth because information is being sent from the server to the person viewing your site.
Domain name is the web address of your site. In this case - yahoo.com.
Other Replys:Try the EZLAVA Web Site Builder. With the program, there%26#039;s no need to know HTML, PHP, ASP, or Javascript. It does everything for you via a central admin that appears when you click on an object (images, text, forms, etc.) to make changes. It%26#039;s wysiwyg editing and drag and drop capability, makes it a very powerful, yet easy to use web building system. And when you%26#039;re ready to publish your web site, you simply hit a button and your web site is live on the Internet. It also has a dynamic shopping cart builder, web form builder, html text editor, and every other feature you need. The program offers several affordable hosting options depending on what you need. We found the software definitely worth it! And if you have any questions, they have superb customer service.
The bandwidth and domain questions should be resolved by the other answers above.
...if you happen to be looking for a graphics program to use, check out Xara. It%26#039;s a European vector based graphics program. I think it would be perfect to use with your cartoon themed web site. It rivals Photoshop, but is much easier to use. : ) ...it also comes with a few extra plug in packages that include all sorts of special effects. (fire, lightning, chrome, water, smoke, etc.) It crossed my mind it would be a perfect tool for what you%26#039;re doing.
Good luck! : )
