What do I have to do to transform my PC in a web server (I want to host my own website)?

What applications do I have to install?

you dont need any of that, no applications -- you can do everytthing from your providers control panel -

for free hosting, try google superpages or yahoo geocities, otherwise I would use http://www.interkeys.com/tophosts to get one for a few bucks a month with 500 GIG bandwidth and the rich with features

With free hosting, you are limited to a subdomain on googlepages %26amp; geo has ads on your website -

its up to you how developed a site you want and if you want to use your own domain name

All you have to install is Windows Internet Information Server.

But more importantly, hosting a website on your home PC isn%26#039;t a good idea. Your home IP address probably changes occasionally and that makes reaching your website more difficult. Instead, pay the $2.95 per month and hook up with 1and1.com or some similar web host. Then you can upload your web content to their site and it remains up all the time. You don%26#039;t have to leave your PC on at all.

But to experiment, all you have to do is load IIS or Internet Information Server and you may have to enable Port Forwarding on your firewall / router if you have one in place.

Other Replys:WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP)

LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)

Other Replys:You%26#039;ll spend more money on power per month than you will if you get hosting. If you still want to do this take a look at http://www.dslwebserver.com/. If you consider to go the shared hosting route, I would recommend ReliableSite.Net.

I%26#039;d also like to add, that most ISPs do not allow running a web server, so be prepared to get your service shut off if they catch you!
